This simple two-color print combines the classic Apple Records logo and Beatles cartoon characters within the template of a vintage child's alphabet primer.
The original LP release of Sgt. Pepper included a fake moustache and other elements to allow people to dress up as the title character. I thought it would be fun to update that concept with this front and back design based on the costume that Paul wore for the cover image and tour
I wanted to bring some activity into the typically staid image of the Beatles, so for this shirt, I pulled inspiration from the "Ticket to Ride" section of HELP, that had the fab four skiing through the Alps.
The next best thing to being in the Yellow Submarine with the Beatles would be to actually BE the Yellow Submarine itself, now possible through the marvel of modern screenprinting, and this two-sided design.
The Beatles / Cirque de Soleil: LOVE

For the "Here Comes the Sun" portion of the show, this design is based on Indian patterns and textile traditions, and starts with a brown/chocolate shirt given a potassium spray for the background highlight. Then the small circular elements on the left chest (meant to invoke the small mirrors often embroidered on Indian textiles) would be printed with Silver Foil. Radiating "stitch" lines could be actual embroidery or high-density ink for simulated embroidery.
Based on classic images from the Op Art movement, I wanted this design to feel hypnotic but not overpowering. The two color print on the central panel would be balanced by solid black sleeves and back, giving the garment a specialty, but without limiting its wearability.
